A Pocket Map to Black History, Right Here in Irvington

History doesn't only live in a museum. Sometimes it's on the street you walk down every day.

Commemorate introduced a new way to discover that history: a pocket-sized map highlighting sites significant to Black history throughout the village. Small enough to carry in a coat pocket or a kid's backpack, the map is meant to turn an ordinary walk into a chance to learn something new about the place we call home.

Maps were distributed to every school in the district and to the Irvington Historical Society, so that students, teachers, and visitors alike have easy access. The goal is simple: make this history visible, accessible, and part of everyday life in the village, not something tucked away for special occasions.
